Correctly knowing the height of a pop-up sprinkler is vitally important when installing a new irrigation system & when repairing replacing existing units. It may seem simple, but too often we’ve heard from people realising they’ve purchased the wrong sized units! So we’re here to help put any confusion to rest.
The confusion comes with mixing up the ‘pop-up height’ and the ‘body height’ of the unit, so let’s clear up what each of those means:
- Pop-up Height: Is the height the riser pops up out of the body when the sprinkler is actively watering. This is the measurement quoted when viewing the various pop-up models (eg: 50mm, 75mm, 100mm).
- Body Height: Is the height of the whole unit when the sprinkler isn’t actively watering. This measurement is always greater than the Pop-up Height & is most important when replacing existing sprinklers.
Selecting the right sized pop-up sprinkler is important.
For new systems, you’ll want to ensure that the pop-up height is high enough for a fitted spray nozzle to function, unobstructed by lawn growth.
For replacement of existing systems, matching the body height to the existing sprinkler body is key. Because without a match, the unit could sit too high (making it a great target for a lawnmower!) or too low (leaving the extended nozzle sitting too low to water effectively)
