FAQs

A valve box is a protective enclosure installed to ground-level to house and access irrigation valves, cable connections, and fittings. It shields components from damage, makes for maintenance easier, and keeps your landscape tidy.

Select a box large enough to fit all your valves, fittings, and room for future expansion. Measure the number and size of valves you’ll install and consider extra space for easy maintenance.

Yes, valve boxes come in various sizes and strengths to suit small home gardens through to large commercial, council, or sports field installations. They are typically classified as either for ‘domestic’ or ‘commercial’ use, and this is evident by their difference in build quality.

Valve boxes should be installed so the lid is flush with or slightly above ground level for easy access and to prevent debris buildup. In lawn, it must to be set low enough to avoid mower damage, but in garden beds a little clearance above ground level is a good idea to avoid misplacing the installation location come maintenance time!

Some valve boxes come with lockable lids or provisions for padlocks, which is useful in public or high-traffic areas to prevent tampering or theft.

Locating misplaced solenoid valves can become one of the toughest job in irrigation maintenance. Over time valves & valve boxes can find themselves buried quite deep! If not visibly obvious, use a long screw driver to prod the ground near garden taps and garden edging until you strike something solid! You may want to consider booking a professional who can use valve locators that detect solenoid signals.

Yes, we stock replacement lids and components for most major valve box brands, so you can easily repair rather than replace the entire box. Looking to match? send us a photo & we’ll match it!
